Hello there! Today I'm going to share my first tutorial with you. While browsing Pinterest today, I came across this pretty purple quilt. If I've learned anything from Paige Evans, I've learned that quilt patterns make great scrapbook page backgrounds! I thought this quilt would be perfect for a layout.

I didn't want my quilted background to take up the entire page (I thought it would be too busy), so I decided to make my quilt squares 2.5". I cut sixteen 2.5" squares with my paper trimmer.


Next, I cut a bunch of 3/16" strips from various pattern papers. I used an assortment of 6"x6" papers from Maggie Holmes Flea Market, Maggie Holmes Styleboard, and Carta Bella Hello Again. After I had a nice pile of strips, I began laying out my quilt squares.


First, cover your square in adhesive. Next, place a strip so that the sides of the strip touch the outer corners (hopefully this picture will help explain. I chose a yellow scrap in order to make it easier to see). The sides of the two main strips will align at the center of the square.


Once you have your main strips lined up, fill the square with more strips, until it's completely full.

Flip it around and trim the edges.


Repeat this same process with the remaining 15 quilt squares. Make sure that all the squares are identical, and the same patterns of strips are in the same place on each square.

Once you have all 16 squares, lay them out like a quilt and glue them down! At first I wanted a white background, but after I glued down the squares I decided that the white was too stark of a contrast, and went with a patterned paper background.


Embellish your layout and you're all done!! This was a special page, so I wanted to make it about someone extra special! Isn't my sister-in-law absolutely gorgeous? She is the most beautiful pregnant woman I've ever seen! We love her so much. Michael picked the title of the page :)


Overall, layout took me about an hour. It's so much easier than it looks!  I hope my instructions made sense. Thank you for checking out my layout and tutorial. I hope it was helpful and I would love to see any projects you make using this fun technique!

I was instantly drawn to this sketch because I'm crazy about hearts. Sketches don't have to be interpreted literally, but I loved it so much that I wanted to keep most of it as is, especially those hearts! I thought Date Night would be a perfect pairing with this sketch.

I decided to tweak the sketch a little bit. I added in an extra photo, and moved the title to the bottom. I love that it keeps the feel of the sketch, but allows me to add a personal touch to it!



 Can we talk about the foil paper for a second? If you have a die-cutting machine, please drop everything now and go use it with the foil paper! I absolutely love elegant look the silver gives the title. If you have a Silhouette Cameo, just use the regular cardstock setting and it will cut like butter! The layered hearts were all cut with my Cameo, but punches would work just as well, or even hand cut hearts for a unique touch!



Because the colors I chose were on the lighter and pastel side, I decided to ink all the edges for some extra OOMMPH! It's been awhile since I'd done that technique and I don't know why I stopped. I'm very happy with the soft yet defined look it gave.

My dear friend and former co-worker, Stan, opened the cutest little online Etsy store, Mad Monkey Krafts. He's spent the past decade in the scrapbooking industry and is just as passionate about it as I am! I was honored when he asked me to make a few cards for him using some of the washi he sells.  I'm absolutely thrilled to be sharing my first Chickaniddy layout with you today! I love the colors and theme of the Date Night collection and was so excited to get creating with it! While this collection is incredibly versatile, my favorite thing to scrap is my handsome husband so I couldn't resist doing a love themed layout. The patterns and colors are lovely and I wanted to highlight as many as possible, so I decided to do a quilt type design.
