I Did-It-Terest: Does the "World's Best Chicken" live up to the hype?

10:30 PM

[How many of us spend more time pinning things than actually doing them? I don't know about you, but in my world the answer is me and pretty much everyone else I know. Pinterest is a great source of inspiration and ideas, and it's my goal in life to actually use some of them! Each week (or so), I will choose a project (this could include a craft, recipe, handy tip, decor, or pretty much anything) from Pinterest to try myself. The results, along with my thoughts about the project, will be posted on my blog for all to see.]

Welcome to the second edition of I Did-It-Terest! I've seen this recipe for the "World's Best Chicken"  on Pinterest quite a bit, I even pinned it myself several months ago. Calling something the "World's Best" is a pretty bold and hefty claim; would the chicken live up to it's name? Michael and I wanted to see for ourselves.

World's Best Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
1 lb boneless skinless chicken breast (4 of them)
1/2 cup Dijon mustard
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
salt & pepper
1 teaspoon rosemary

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. In a small bowl, mix together mustard, syrup, wine and rosemary.
3. Place chicken breasts into 9×13 baking dish. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Pour mustard mixture over chicken. (Original recipe said no need to marinate).
5. Bake for 40 minutes or until meat thermometer reads 165 degrees.

Pretty simple, right? I mixed the ingredients and together and was surprised at just how unappetizing of a color it was! It did, however, smell super good.
As a side dish, I made roasted brussels sprouts. These are AMAZING. Seriously, what vegetable doesn't taste good when it's roasted in the oven with fresh cracked pepper and sea salt?
The chicken made the house smell so good! I took it out of the oven and put it on our fancy plates (normally we use a hodgepodge of various plastic plates collected from Target over the years, just in case you were wondering). Michael likes American cheese on his potatoes, isn't that weird?
I wasn't sure if I was supposed to leave the sauce on the chicken or not (it didn't have it in the recipe picture, but how are you supposed to taste it otherwise?), so we tried it both ways. I asked Michael (the official Pinterest judge) his opinion, and here is his verdict:

He graded it a 7 out of 10, saying it was "really good", but not "really great". We knocked down mega points for its super claim. We enjoyed it and will be making it again, but we are changing the name to "The World's Pretty Good Chicken". Given the sauce, I thought it would make great leftovers in a delicious salad--and it does!

Will you be trying this recipe? Thanks for joining me!
